Bethany Ashton Wolf’s “Forever My Girl” Acquired by Roadside

Bethany Ashton Wolf and “Forever My Girl” star Jessica Rothe: Wolf’s Instagram account

“Forever My Girl” has found a home. Variety writes that Roadside Attractions has acquired domestic distribution rights to Bethany Ashton Wolf’s romance about high school sweethearts, missed opportunities, and the lure of fame.

Based on Heidi McLaughlin’s 2012 novel of the same name, “Forever My Girl” centers on a country music star “who left his bride at the altar choosing fame and fortune instead,” the source summarizes. An unexpected trip back to his hometown forces him to face “the consequences of all that he left behind.”

“We fell in love with this special movie the moment we saw it,” said Roadside’s Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff. “‘Forever My Girl’ is the kind of film that will play everywhere but we believe it will play especially well in the heartland. It has tested through the roof around the country — far above the norms with sensational reactions across the board.”

Alex Roe (“The 5th Wave”) and Jessica Rothe (“Mary + Jane,” “La La Land”) star in the feature.

Jennifer Monroe (“The Zookeeper’s Wife”) is among the project’s producers, and its EPs include Alison Semenza King (“Powder Blue”) and Nicole Stojkovich.

Wolf’s first feature, “Little Chenier,” premiered at the 2006 Austin Film Festival. She’s written and directed a number of shorts, including “Midnight Juliet” and “Love Scene.”
