Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will lure a new generation of little children into a land of enchantment: the trio are set reprise their roles as the Sanderson Sisters in a sequel to the 1993 Halloween cult classic “Hocus Pocus.” A press release announced the news.
Set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2022, “Hocus Pocus 2” will be directed by Anne Fletcher. The sequel tells the story of three young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters “back to modern day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world,” the film’s synopsis hints.
Nearly three decades after its original release, “Hocus Pocus” remains a favorite among many during the Halloween season.
“Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” said Fletcher. “I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”
“Dumplin’,” “The Proposal,” and “27 Dresses” are among Fletcher’s features.
A two-time Oscar nominee, Midler received nods for “The Rose” and “For the Boys.” The Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner’s other credits include “The First Wives Club” and “Beaches.”
Parker will reprise her iconic, Emmy-winning role as Carrie Bradshaw in HBO Max’s upcoming “Sex and the City” revival, “And Just Like That.” She starred in HBO’s “Divorce” from 2016-2019.
“Younger,” “Veep,” and “Sister Act” are among Najimy’s credits.
