Billie Piper is re-teaming with “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” scribe Lucy Prebble. The pair are credited as co-creators on “I Hate Suzy,” an eight-part series that’s been ordered by Sky. Deadline confirmed the news.
Penned by Prebble, who scored an Emmy nod for her work on HBO’s “Succession,” “I Hate Suzy” sees Piper playing Suzie Pickles, a “star on the wane, who has her whole life upended when her phone is hacked and a photo of her emerges in an extremely compromising position.”
“It’s taken years to finally get Lucy, my long-term GF and favorite writer in London, to work with me again,” said Piper. “We feel we’ve created something timely and not for the faint-hearted. If you too suffer with anxiety, shame, compulsive lying but like a laugh, please tune in at some point.”
“I Hate Suzy” is expected to air on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in 2020.
Best known for her supporting role in “Doctor Who,” Piper starred in “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” from 2007-2011. Prebble served as a writer on the comedy. Piper won an Olivier Award in 2017 for her role in “Yerma. ” Her feature directorial debut, anti-rom-com “Rare Beasts,” is making its world premiere at Venice Film Festival later this month.
