Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite (“Blackfish”) is returning to nature in her narrative feature debut.
The documentary filmmaker will helm “The Search,” an action-thriller based on a Black List script about a tracker who sets out to find and rescue his estranged brother in the Northwestern wilderness. While the tracker copes with his psychological wounds, his brother struggles to survive physical ones that threaten his survival.
After premiering at Sundance, “Blackfish” went on to gross $2.2 million in the US for Magnolia Pictures and CNN Films. The exposé initially caused a drop of 4.2% in attendance at Sea World locations, but ticket sales have since bounced back thanks to promotional deals and a $10 million publicity campaign.
