Blake Lively is set to play another assassin. The “Gossip Girl” alumna will follow up Reed Morano’s “The Rhythm Section” with “Lady Killer,” an adaptation of a comic book from Dark Horse Comics. She’s teaming up with Oscar-winning “Juno” scribe Diablo Cody on the project. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
Hailing from Dark Horse Entertainment, “Lady Killer” will see Lively playing “a picture-perfect housewife” who “just happens to lead a secret life as a deadly killer for hire.” Cody is penning the script.
Lively was last seen in “The Rhythm Section,” a 2020 revenge thriller about an ordinary woman who vows to kill every last person responsible for the plane crash that left her family dead. “A Simple Favor,” “The Shallows,” and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” franchise are among her other credits.
Cody was nominated for a Tony Award in 2020 for best book of a musical for “Jagged Little Pill,” based on the songs by Alanis Morissette. Besides “Juno,” her other screenwriting includes “Tully,” “Young Adult,” and “Ricki and the Flash.” She is a writer and exec producer on The CW’s upcoming “Powerpuff Girls” live-action series starring Chloe Bennet (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), Dove Cameron (“Descendants”), and Yana Perrault (“Jagged Little Pill”). Cody made her directorial debut with 2013 Julianne Hough-starrer “Paradise.”
