The 2019 Toronto International Film Festival is still a few weeks away, but one of its titles has already found a home. According to a press release, Amazon Studios has snagged the worldwide rights to Danielle Krudy and Bridget Savage Cole’s “Blow the Man Down.” The pic will be available worldwide exclusively on  Amazon Prime Video.

Described as a “seaside noir,” “Blow the Man Down” is set in the fishing village of Easter Cove, Maine. “Grieving the loss of their mother and facing an uncertain future, Mary Beth and Priscilla Connolly (Morgan Saylor and Sophie Lowe) cover up a gruesome run-in with a dangerous man,” per the synopsis. “To conceal their crime, the sisters must go deeper into Easter Cove’s underbelly and uncover the town matriarchs’ darkest secrets.”

Margo Martindale and June Squibb also star.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring ‘Blow the Man Down’ to our global Prime Video audience and for the world to discover directors Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy,” announced Julie Rapaport, Co-Head of Movies at Amazon Studios. “They brilliantly executed and created an authentic world that draws you in immediately, keeping the viewer on edge till the very end.”

“We’re so thrilled ‘Blow the Man Down’ has found its dream home at Amazon Studios. This film has been a part of our lives for a long time and we love that Amazon shares our passion for this salty story world,” Krudy and Savage Cole stated. “We’ve always seen ‘Blow the Man Down’ as an inter-generational story, and we know that Amazon will be able to reach a wide and enthusiastic audience — as well as all the diehard Margo Martindale fans out there.”

“Blow the Man Down” premiered this spring at the Tribeca Film Fest. When we interviewed the filmmakers ahead of the pic’s debut, Krudy said they “wanted to tell a story about the women we know in our own lives — our grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and sisters.” She continued, “We tried to come up with ways to showcase the special power they wielded in our lives, a kind of feminine power.”

Savage Cole added, “This tale is contemporary, but we hope to invite viewers to think about women of generations past, and all the untold stories that have unfolded by the sea.”

Krudy and Savage Cole previously collaborated on shorts “OowieWanna” and “Julia.” “Blow the Man Down” is their first feature. Savage Cole co-directed “The Distance Between the Apple and the Tree” and helmed episodes of “Window Dressing” and “The Queue.” Krudy directed an episode of “Window Dressing” as well.

“Blow the Man Down” will screen at TIFF as part of its Contemporary World Cinema program. The fest runs September 5-15.
