Blue is the Warmest Color International Trailer Hits

null

Palme d’Or winning film, the controversial, Blue is the Warmest Color will also play at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival.  The film about two young lesbians won the top award at Cannes but was denounced by Julia Maroh who wrote the graphic novel Blue Angel that the film was based upon.  She complained on her blog after seeing the film that the film was “a brutal and surgical display, exuberant and cold, of so-called lesbian sex, which turned into porn.”  You can read more of her comments here.

Several female film critics have also made comments about the film and its voyeuristic nature — a sex scene is said to last 20 minutes.  Manohla Dargis wrote in the NYTimes that “The movie feels far more about Mr. Kechiche’s desires than anything else” and Amy Taubin of Film Comment said: “If you take the sex out no one would be interested in this movie.”

The film will again court controversy as it rolls out across the festival circuit this fall and in France on October 25 which oddly takes it out of consideration for the foreign language film Oscar race this year.  (Films need to screen in their home countries by September 30 to qualify.)

We guarantee this film will generate many conversations this fall.
