Two brains are better than one, so Sony’s betting that four brains are better than two.
After hiring “Broad City” writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs to develop the female “21 Jumps Street” spin-off, the studio has hired “Bob’s Burgers” jokesters Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux to draft their own version of the film. Sony was impressed with a pitch from the Molyneux sisters, so the studio has put the women-led spin-off on dual-track development: Both teams of writers will offer their own versions of the script to Sony, which will then choose from whichever one it likes more.
Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux previously wrote the screenplay for “Hot Stuff” at DreamWorks Animation (which doesn’t seem to be in development) and landed on the 2009 Black List with a script called “My Sister is Marrying a Douchebag.”
But those who don’t watch (the wonderfully goofy) “Bob’s Burgers” might most be familiar with Wendy Molyneux’s work via a hilarious crowdsourcing campaign in which she promised last week to see the “Entourage” movie — “the worst movie of the year and possibly our lifetime” — if she could inspire $10,000 in donations for childhood cancer research. She raised more than $30,000.
