The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics’ (GALECA) has announced the nominees for their annual Dorian Awards. Céline Sciamma’s “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” received a whopping six nods, including Film of the Year, Director of the Year, and LGBTQ Film of the Year.
Written and directed by Sciamma, “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” is set in 1760 France and focuses on the love story between an artist (Noémie Merlant) and the reluctant bride (Adèle Haenel) she’s hired to paint a portrait of.
Greta Gerwig is also up for Director of the Year for “Little Women,” a coming-of-age story about sisters (Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen) growing up during the American Civil War. “Little Women” is in the running for Film of the Year as well, among other trophies.
“Booksmart” received two nods: LGBTQ Film of the Year and Unsung Film of the Year. Olivia Wilde’s feature directorial debut centers on overachieving BFFs (Beanie Feldstein, Kaitlyn Dever) who vow to let loose on the eve of their high school graduation. The comedy depicts Dever’s character’s first sexual experience with a girl.

As THR notes, the Dorian Awards “are voted on by approximately 240 entertainment journalists — many of whom identify as members of the LGBTQ community — from the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia.” Winners will be announced later today, January 8.
Nominations for the 31st annual GLAAD Media Awards were also recently announced. “Booksmart” and “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” are among the nominees. “Pose” writer and director Janet Mock will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, given in recognition of an LGBTQ media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting LGBTQ acceptance. All of the nominees can be found on The Hollywood Reporter. The GLAAD Media Awards will take place April 16 in LA.
