Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring opened in five locations this past weekend and grossed $210,000 for a per screen average of $42,000.
Not surprisingly, the film played very well with women from 17-34 according to the distributor A24 which has released three films this year with young women as the leads including Sally Potter’s Ginger and Rosa and Spring Breakers. The film will expand wider next weekend.
Other female centric films that did well include 20 Feet From Stardom which took in $52,211 on 3 screens and The East starring and co-written by Brit Marling which has now taken in over $700,000 in its third week on 115 screens.
