Esteemed television writer and exec producer Bridget Carpenter’s next project will take viewers to the Old West. Deadline reports that Fox Entertainment has offered her a script commitment plus penalty for a period drama co-produced between Fox and CBS.
“Go West” will follow a group of people from different backgrounds as they “take the ultimate American road trip in the pre-Civil War era of the 1850’s.” Cultural clashes will presumably ensue as they search for “freedom, gold, and the American dream in California.”
Carpenter served as exec producer of NBC’s Emmy-winning “Friday Night Lights,” an ensemble drama that chronicles the politics and complicated relationships of a small football town. She also exec produced and wrote for “Parenthood” and briefly worked on HBO’s “Westworld.”
She served as creator, exec producer, and showrunner of miniseries “11.22.63.” Adapted from Steven King’s novel of the same name, the Hulu and Bad Robot co-production sees a science teacher traveling back in time to prevent John F. Kennedy’s assassination. It was nominated for an Emmy.
Carpenter recently wrote Disney Channel musical “Freaky Friday” and the “Cagney and Lacey” reboot starring “Grey’s Anatomy’s” Sarah Drew and Michelle Hurd.
