Cami Delavigne helped steer Julia Roberts’ journey towards uncovering her mysterious history in “Homecoming,” and now she’s set to take on another story about a woman with a complicated and secret past. The writer is signed on to pen Killer Films’ film adaptation of “Inheritance.” Variety broke the news.
Published earlier this year, “Inheritance: A Memoir of Genealogy, Paternity, and Love” revisits Shapiro’s decision to take a commercial DNA test for fun. The shocking results revealed that the man she’d known as her father was not her biological relative, and the truth about her identity had been kept secret for more than 50 years. The memoir is a New York Times Bestseller.
Pamela Koffler and Killer Films are producing the pic, and Shapiro will exec produce alongside Beverly Rogers.
Delavigne served as a story editor and writer on Amazon’s “Homecoming.” “Blue Valentine” and “Quantico” are among her other credits.
“I look for strong female leads,” Delavigne has said of the projects she’s drawn to. She added, “Questions and descriptions of women based solely on appearance … tend to be a warning sign for me.”
Shapiro’s other books include “Hourglass,” “Slow Motion,” and “Devotion.”
