Andrea Arnold is returning to Cannes. The writer-director premiered her last feature, 2016’s “American Honey,” in Competition, and now she’s set to serve as President of Un Certain Regard. The five-person jury also includes “Papicha” filmmaker Mounia Meddour and “I’ve Loved You So Long” actress Elsa Zylberstein. A press release announced the news.

Arnold’s first two features, 2006’s “Red Road” and 2009’s “Fish Tank,” both competed at Cannes and won the Jury Prize, an honor “American Honey” also took home. Her 2011 adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” premiered at the Venice Film Festival. She was awarded an Oscar for her 2003 short film “Wasp.” “Big Little Lies,” “Transparent,” and “I Love Dick” are among Arnold’s small screen credits.

“We’ve grown up mainly on male stories, and most of the films have been written and directed by men – and that’s only half of the human race,” Arnold has said.

Set to take place July 6-17, Un Certain Regard’s lineup includes Gessica Généus’ “Freda,” a drama about a family living in Haiti, and Laura Wandel’s “Un Monde,” the story of a seven-year-old girl torn between children’s and adults’ worlds.
