Best known for playing an ass-kicking cyborg in “Alita: Battle Angel,” Rosa Salazar will take on the role of a chemistry teacher in “The Bang Bang Girls.” World rights to the sex-ed dramedy are being shopped at Cannes Film Market, Deadline reports.
Lauren Schacher’s feature directorial debut follows a “high school valedictorian and her two best friends who recruit their new chemistry teacher (Salazar) to form a secret after-school sex-ed club,” according to the source.
Production will kick off this fall.
Manga adaptation “Alita: Battle Angel” has grossed over $404 million worldwide. “I felt like when I got this role, I was being inducted into a very special honor society of strong female protagonists who are dynamic, who are realistic to the women I see every day,” Salazar has said. “Bird Box,” “The Kindergarten Teacher,” and “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” are among her other credits.
Schacher co-wrote and exec produced “Bailey & Darla,” a dramedy about a sex addict and testicular cancer patient that’s currently in post-production. She co-created digital series “F*ck Yes.”
