Cannes Workshop to Focus on Women Directors and Screenwriters

The European Audiovisual Observatory, a EU organization that compiles statistical and analytical data on film and television, will devote its upcoming workshop at Cannes to women in the film industry.

The “Girls Just Wanna Have Film!” workshop (May 17) will focus primarily on admissions, women directors, and issues of genre. The British Film Institute will present their studies on female screenwriters, as will the French CNC on women in the film industry in general.

There will also be a panel discussion on how to boost female participation in the film industry, including the possibility of using “positive discrimination” to encourage young women directors to enter the field.
