“Captain Marvel” Pre-Sales Among Top Three in MCU History

"Captain Marvel": Marvel Studios

Carol Danvers has made history yet again — and we still have another two months before her film opens. According to Deadline, “Captain Marvel,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first film led by a woman, is one of the franchise’s top three films in terms of Fandango advance ticket sales. It’s only behind “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” which happen to be the two highest-grossing films of 2018, and among the highest-grossing films of all-time.

“We’re seeing fantastic advance ticket sales for ‘Captain Marvel’ because it’s a historic film for Marvel Studios, one that fans have been waiting to see for a decade,” said Fandango’s Erik Davis. “As the studio’s first female-driven superhero film, ‘Captain Marvel’ is a benchmark moment for the genre, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for star Brie Larson, who will play the most powerful Marvel superhero to date.”

“Captain Marvel” follows Carol Danvers (Larson), a former soldier and pilot struggling to remember her past life as she becomes caught up in an intergalactic war between two alien races.

While advance ticket sales do not necessarily guarantee box office success, Deadline describes “Captain Marvel’s” Fandango record as “fantastic” and predicts the superheroine pic will have a $100 million debut at the least.

Advance tickets for “Captain Marvel” went on sale 6PM EST on Monday, January 7. The film is “also besting the first 24-hour sales of such Marvel Cinematic Universe movies like [‘Captain America: Civil War’], ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ and ‘Doctor Strange’ on Fandango.”

“Captain Marvel” is also the first Marvel movie to be directed by a woman. Anna Boden co-directed the pic with Ryan Fleck. “Mississippi Grind” and “Half Nelson” are among the collaborators’ previous credits.

Larson won an Oscar in 2016 for “Room.” Her recent credits include “The Glass Castle” and “Kong: Skull Island.” The “Short Term 12” actress made her feature directorial debut with “Unicorn Store,” a coming-of-age comedy about an art student who is obsessed with unicorns. The pic premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.

Head over to Fandango to buy tickets for “Captain Marvel” ahead of its March 8 opening.
