2019 is shaping up to be a banner year for Emerald Fennell. Best known for her role as Patsy on beloved BBC drama “Call the Midwife,” the multi-hyphenate plays Camilla Parker Bowles in the upcoming third season of “The Crown,” and has signed on to serve as showrunner on the second run of Sandra Oh-starrer “Killing Eve.” Now word comes that Fennell will be making her feature directorial debut, and she’s taking Carey Mulligan along for the ride. Deadline confirms that Mulligan will topline “Promising Young Woman.”
Scheduled to kick off production this spring, the thriller sees Mulligan playing “Cassie, a young woman haunted by a tragedy in her past, who begins to take a very particular form of revenge on the predatory men unlucky enough to cross her path,” according to the source. Fennell penned the script.
“Promising Young Woman” will be introduced at Berlin’s European Film Market next week. Fennell, Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment, and FilmNation are producing.
Also an author, Fennell has published YA novels. Her books include “Shiverton Hall” and “Monsters.”
Mulligan received an Oscar nod in 2010 for “An Education.” “Wildlife,” “Mudbound,” and “Suffragette” are among her more recent credits.
