Carey Mulligan’s awards season is shaping up to be promising indeed: “The Promising Young Woman” star has already been named Best Actress by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards and recently received two noms from London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, and now word comes that she’ll be honored by the Palm Springs International Film Awards. The Oscar-nominated “An Education” breakout will receive the International Star Award for her performance in “Promising Young Woman.”
Written and directed by Emerald Fennell, “Promising Young Woman” tells the story of Cassie (Mulligan), a former med student who dedicates her life to teaching predatory men a lesson. The revenge drama made its world premiere at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and is now screening in theaters and available on VOD.
Mulligan received Palm Springs International Film Festival’s breakthrough performance award in 2011 for “Never Let Me Go” and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”
“The festival and film awards gala will not be held as in-person events this year, but honoree selections will recognize the year’s great performances, the Palm Springs Film Festival announced,” per Variety.
Charlize Theron was honored with the International Star Award for “Bombshell” last year.
“Collateral” and “Wildlife” are among Mulligan’s recent credits.
