Carey Mulligan & Zoe Kazan to Play Pulitzer-Winning Journalists Who Helped Bring Down Harvey Weinstein

Mulligan in "Promising Young Woman"

Carey Mulligan will topline another timely #MeToo story exploring sexual abuse, consent, and coverups. Alongside Zoe Kazan, the Oscar-nominated “Promising Young Woman” star will lead Universal Pictures’ “She Said,” a drama inspired by Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor’s investigation into disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein’s long history of sexual abuse. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.

Set to be directed by Maria Schrader, the Emmy-winning director of “Unorthodox,” “She Said” will revisit how NYT reporters Twohey (Mulligan) and Kantor (Kazan) broke the story about Weinstein’s predatory behavior. Published October 5, 2017, their story helped bring Tarana Burke’s #MeToo movement to the mainstream and led to the formation of #TimesUp.

“She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement,” Twohey and Kantor’s book about what took place behind the scenes of their Weinstein story, hit shelves in September 2019.

Rebecca Lenkiewicz (“Ida”) is penning the script for “She Said.”

A two-time Oscar nominee, Mulligan has received nods for Emerald Fennell’s revenge thriller “Promising Young Woman” and Lone Scherfig’s coming-of-age drama “An Education.”

Kazan was recently seen in HBO’s Philip Roth adaptation “The Plot Against America.”

“She Said” marks a reunion of sorts for Mulligan and Kazan. The former starred in 2018’s “Wildlife” and the latter co-wrote the drama.
