Carol Burnett is teaming up with Netflix — and kids. The streaming giant has given a 12-episode series order to “A Little Help with Carol Burnett,” an unscripted, half-hour comedy that will follow the TV icon “and a panel of straight-talking 4–8-year-olds as they demonstrate how different generations solve life’s biggest dilemmas,” Deadline reports.
Scheduled for a 2018 premiere, “A Little Help with Carol Burnett” will follow the kids as they react to “real-life issues brought before them by both celebrities and everyday people and … dish back guidance in front of a live studio audience.”
Burnett joked, “Someone once asked me how old I am inside, I thought about it, and came up with, ‘I’m about eight.’ So it’s going to be a lot of fun playing with kids my age.”
“We’re thrilled Carol is bringing her unique sensibilities to Netflix,” said Bela Bajaria, VP, Content Acquisition for Netflix. “Carol is truly a legend in the entertainment industry with unprecedented success and fandom across TV, film, and the stage, and we are both honored and excited to work with her.”
“The Carol Burnett Show” ran from 1967 to 1978 on CBS and made Burnett a household name.
Burnett has six Emmy Awards from a whopping 22 nominations. An inductee to the Television Hall of Fame, she has a Peabody Award, five Golden Globe Awards, Crystal and Lucy Awards from Women in Film, and many other trophies to her name. In 2013 Burnett received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, one of the highest honors for a comedian.
In January of last year, Amy Poehler and her frequent collaborator Tina Fey presented Burnett with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAG Awards.
“We watched Carol with our moms, and our moms taught us 90 percent of what we needed to know to be the kind of women that we are today, and the other 10 percent is Carol,” Poehler said during the ceremony. “We love her and we thank her.”
