Casey Wilson to Play a Mayor in ABC Comedy Pilot Directed by Julie Anne Robinson

“Happy Endings” alum Casey Wilson is returning to ABC. The actress will headline the network’s comedy pilot “Hail Mary,” playing Mary Wolf, the overworked, charismatic mayor of a small-town.

Mary has a lot to contend with — her town is on the verge of bankruptcy, her father is dying and the mafia is keeping a watchful, threatening eye on her. The rule-follower does something entirely unexpected in a last ditch effort to solve her problems: She fakes a miracle.

The half-hour, single-camera series is based on “Braunschlag,” an Austrian show that premiered in 2012 and remains on the air.

Let’s also note that the pilot for “Hail Mary” will be helmed by Julie Anne Robinson (“Orange is the New Black,” “Scandal”). She is one of the very few women to be directing a pilot this season.

Cult favorite “Happy Endings” was cancelled in 2013. Wilson’s credits since then include “Kroll Show,” “Marry Me” and “The Hotwives of Las Vegas.” She has an upcoming guest spot booked on “Grey’s Anatomy.”
