Catherine Deneuve Named the 2016 Recipient of the Lumière Award

Catherine Deneuve in “A Christmas Tale”

Catherine Deneuve will be honored with the 2016 Lumière Award at the Lumière Grand Lyon Film Festival in France, Variety reports. The event focuses almost exclusively on film classics as opposed to new releases.

The French actress is the eighth recipient of the award — and the first female recipient. Past winners include Clint Eastwood and Martin Scorsese.

A press statement from the Institut Lumière read, “This year’s Lumière Award goes to Catherine Deneuve for what she is, has done, says, acts, sings, and delights from time immemorial and forever.”

Deneuve has been acting on-screen for over half a century. Her credits include “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg,” “Indochine,” and “8 Women.” The former Oscar nominee received a Berlin Silver Bear for outstanding artistic achievement as well as an honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes. Her most recent high-profile role was in Emmanuelle Bercot’s 2015 Cannes opener “Standing Tall.”

Deneuve will accept the award on October 14 at Lyon’s Congress Centre.
