Catherine Deneuve to Be Honored with Venice Film Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Deneuve in "The Truth"

Catherine Deneuve will soon be able to add another accolade to her collection — she is set to be awarded with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at Venice later this fall.

As noted by the Hollywood Reporter, her journey with the festival has come full circle as she starred in Luis Buñuel’s “Belle de Jour,” which too was awarded the Golden Lion at Venice in 1967. Said Deneuve: “It is a joy to receive this prestigious award at the Venice Festival, which I love and have known for a long time … It is also an honor to be chosen for this tribute at the Film Festival that has accompanied me so often for so many movies.”

It will not be the first time Deneuve has been recognized in this way for the breadth and success of her filmography — in 2013, the European Film Awards honored her similarly, and she received the 2016 Lumière Award at the Lumière Grand Lyon Film Festival in France, which celebrates film classics.

The legendary French actress has also won two Best Actress César awards for “Le dernier métro” and “Indochine,” and was also nominated for an Oscar for the latter. Her most recent credits include “The Truth,” opposite Juliette Binoche, and Julie Bertuccelli’s “Claire Darling.”

Venice International Film Festival takes place August 31-September 10.
