A powerful music video has been released for Lady Gaga’s emotional tribute to sexual abuse survivors, “Til It Happens To You.” The clip, directed by “Twilight” and “Miss You Already” helmer Catherine Hardwicke, is presented by “The Hunting Ground.” Gaga co-wrote the song with Diane Warren and recorded it for the 2015 documentary about the ubiquity of campus sexual assault — and how little colleges and the legal system are doing to solve this ghastly problem.
The video portrays sexual assaults as well as the toll they take on survivors, who unsurprisingly are often left battling anger, isolation and depression. The video features Nikki Reed, who previously worked with Hardwicke in both “Twilight” and “Thirteen,” and Kiersey Clemons (“Dope”).
“Til it happens to you, you don’t know how it feels, how it feels, Until it happens to you, you won’t know, it won’t be real,” Gaga sings in the black and white 5-minute video. The singer tweeted, “@diane_warren & I made ’Til It Happens To You’ for people all over the world who suffer from painful life experiences. #TheHuntingGround”. A second tweet read, “We hope u feel our love&solidarity through the song & perhaps find some peace in knowing u r not alone through this film #TilItHappensToYou”.
“The Hunting Ground,” directed and produced by the same team behind the incisive “The Invisible War,” can be viewed on Amazon and iTunes now.
