Celine Held and Logan George have a new project on the way. The “Caroline” collaborators and spouses just shot their feature debut, “Topside.” A press release announced the news.
Penned by Held and George, “Topside” centers on a a five year-old girl who “lives under the streets of New York City with her mother. After a police-mandated eviction, they are forced to flee and face the world above, threatening their future as mother and daughter,” the film’s synopsis details.
The film, which shot in New York City and Rochester, New York, counts Kara Durrett and Melina Lizette of Level Forward among its producers. Its exec producers include Kimberly Steward of K Period Media, Adrienne Becker of Level Forward, and Yoni Liebling of Red Crown Productions.
“It’s been a crazy wonderful journey researching and working on this story the last five years, and we could not be more excited by the partnership that has come together to bring it to life,” said Held and George. “More than ever, we feel the urgency and relevancy of this story, and we’re so thankful to have producers on-board who are able to help protect and foster that.”
Held and George’s 2018 short “Caroline” screened in competition at Cannes, made its U.S. premiere at SXSW, and was shortlisted for Best Live Action Short Film at the Oscars. Their most recent short, “Lockdown,” tells the story of a 14-year-old girl struggling with her feelings for her best friend. It premiered at Sundance in January and went on to screen at SXSW.
