Given at the IDA Documentary Awards, the Amicus Award “honors individuals or organizations in recognition of their work supporting the essential needs of the nonfiction media landscape.” This year’s recipient is Chicken & Egg Pictures.
Founded in 2005, Chicken & Egg is dedicated to supporting women nonfiction filmmakers whose work inspires social change. Since its launch, the New York-based nonprofit has awarded over $6 million in grants and provided mentorship and creative support to over 250 films.
Geeta Gandbhir (“A Journey of A Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers”), Kirsten Johnson (“Cameraperson”), Dawn Porter (“Trapped”), and Nanfu Wang (“Hooligan Sparrow”) are just a few of the many female filmmakers Chicken & Egg has honored and supported.
Judith Hefland, Wendy Ettinger, and Julie Parker Benello co-founded Chicken & Egg.
The 2018 IDA Documentary Awards will take place December 8.
