“Sister Act,” “The Fighting Temptations,” and “Perfect Harmony” are getting some company: another choir comedy is on the way. “Grown-ish” actress Chloe Bailey will topline “Praise This” for Universal Pictures with “Little” helmer Tina Gordon set to direct. Deadline broke the news.
Set in the world of youth choirs, “Praise This” will center around a music competition and Universal is reportedly “eyeing it for a potential franchise in the vein of ‘Pitch Perfect,'” per the source. Production kicks off in Atlanta in June.
Gordon, who made her feature directorial debut with 2013’s “Peeples,” penned the latest draft of the script.
Bailey’s first credited role on IMDb is “The Fighting Temptations,” a 2003 pic about an NYC advertising exec who is forced to create a gospel choir before he can collect his inheritance. She played a younger version of Beyoncé’s character in the film. The singer’s upcoming film slate includes “Jane,” a high school-set thriller.
