Chloe Sevigny to Play Lizzie Borden in New Movie, Kristen Stewart in Talks to Co-Star

Kristen Stewart has received some of the best notices of her career playing opposite more experienced actresses like Julianne Moore in “Still Alice” and Juliette Binoche in “Clouds of Sils Maria,” so the prospect of her co-starring in a Chloe Sevigny vehicle is highly encouraging.

The project that might unite Stewart and Sevigny on screen is an untitled psychological thriller about Lizzie Borden, who was accused of murdering her parents with an ax but was acquitted of the crime in court. The film will focus on the events leading up to the fateful night that made Borden the subject of a morbid nursery rhyme: “Lizzie Borden took an ax/and gave her mother 40 whacks/when the job was finally done/gave her father 41.”

Stewart is in “early negotiations” to play Bridget Sullivan, the Bordens’ live-in maid and a possible witness to the killings. Her testimony at the murder trial in favor of Lizzie have led some to theorize that they had a closer relationship than one might suspect between a servant and her mistress.

Naomi Despres will produce.
