“This Is Us” breakout Chrissy Metz has signed on to star in TV vet Roxann Dawson’s feature directorial debut. Entertainment Weekly reports that the two are teaming up for Fox 2000’s “The Impossible,” an adaptation of Joyce Smith’s 2017 non-fiction book “The Impossible: The Miraculous Story of a Mother’s Faith and Her Child’s Resurrection.”
Slated to begin production in March, the faith-based story sees Metz playing Joyce, a woman whose teen son nearly died after falling through ice on a frozen lake in Missouri. He was lifeless in a hospital for an hour before his heart resumed beating.
“The Impossible” marks Metz’s first leading role in a film. She’s received an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nods for her portrayal of Kate Pearson in “This Is Us.” The “American Horror Story” alumna’s memoir, “This Is Me: Loving the Person You Are Today,” hits shelves March 27.
Dawson has over two decades of experience directing TV. Her recent credits include “The Americans,” “The Chi,” and “Good Girls Revolt.” She’s also an actress and starred in “Star Trek: Voyager” from 1995 to 2001.
