Two months after Joss Whedon exited the project, “Batgirl” has found a new writer. “Unforgettable” scribe Christina Hodson has signed on to pen the Warner Bros. film based on the beloved DC Entertainment character, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
First introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane, Batgirl evolved into Barbra Gordon, the daughter of Gotham’s police commissioner James Gordon. Yvonne Craig and Alicia Silverstone are among the actresses who have played the heroine.
Hodson wrote “Bumblebee,” the upcoming “Transformers” spinoff starring Hailee Steinfeld. The big-budget pic is set to bow December 21. Her other credits include last year’s Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl thriller “Unforgettable” and 2016’s Naomi Watts-starrer “Shut In.”
No stranger to the Batgirl character, the former development executive “helped to develop a feature project based on the all-female crime-fighting group Birds of Prey,” according to THR. Batgirl, described by DC as “an exceptional fighter and detective” who is “unparalleled in her computer skills,” is a member of Birds of Prey.
Hodson has appeared on the Black List, a collection of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood, three times.
