I’m heading to Columbia, Mo for the Citizen Jane Film Festival which celebrates independent films by independent women. I will be a part of the Citizen Jane Summit which is going to discuss the lack of women working in the film business. The event will take place, tomorrow, October 3 on the campus of Stephens College from 3–7.
I will be sharing my presentation on The Status of Women in Hollywood as well as discussing women directors and In Her Voice: Women Directors Talk Directing. This is my second trip to Columbia and to Citizen Jane. It’s a terrific film festival and a great town.
Other participants in the discussion include directors Julia Reichert, founder of New Day Films, who will talk about women in independent cinema, and Yvonne Welbon will explore gender and race in cinema and Joanna Demkiewicz and Kalyen Ralph, journalists and founders of the new feminist magazine The Riveter.
