This calls for a celebratory manicure: “Claws” is coming back for a second season. Deadline reports that the TNT dramedy has been renewed by TNT just five episodes into its debut season, an unsurprising development considering that the story of Florida-based manicurists/money launderers is doing great numbers.
“Claws” is “the highest-rated TNT series launched since the cable network’s programming shift last year under the new regime,” Deadline writes. “It also is the youngest-skewing TNT drama series. Ranking as cable’s №4 new drama with adults 18–49 for 2017-to-date and №4 cable drama in social engagement, ‘Claws’ is reaching a multiplatform audience of 6.3 million viewers per episode across TNT’s linear, digital, mobile and on-demand platforms and averaging 1.1 million adults 18–49 in linear Live + 7.”
Niecy Nash (“Getting On”), Carrie Preston (“True Blood”), Judy Reyes (“Jane the Virgin”), Karrueche Tran (“The Bay”), and Jenn Lyon (“Justified”) star in the series.
“Most of the cast are women of a certain age,” Nash has said. “I love the fact we are so vibrant and full and complex.”
Janine Sherman Barrois (“Criminal Minds,” “ER”) serves as showrunner, and “Angie Tribeca” star Rashida Jones is among “Claws’” producers.
“Look out, Manatee County, these ladies are coming back for more!” commented TNT’s EVP programming Sarah Aubrey. “These strong-willed, hilarious women represent the diverse voices this network is all about. ‘Claws’ has certainly struck a chord with audiences and continues to attract new viewers each week.”
The season finale of “Claws’” first season airs August 13. Season 2 will premiere in 2018.
