“Claws” Renewed for Season 3

"Claws"

Celebratory mani-pedis are in order. Deadline confirms the nail salon-set crime dramedy “Claws” has received a Season 3 renewal at TNT, following an impressive ratings showcase in its current second season.

The June 10 premiere, “Shook,” earned 1.3 million viewers in the 18-49 demo, a 38 percent increase from the series premiere in 2017, per the source. “Claws” Season 2 “is now tracking +9% ahead of Season 1, ranks among the top 5 cable dramas this year, and is currently posting the largest year-over-year growth among all returning cable dramas, according to TNT.”

The Niecy Nash-starrer also has a solid digital audience as well as a growing social media presence. “Shook’s” digital views were over two times higher than the pilot episode’s. Season 2 “has generated more than 700K social engagements in its first week alone, with +75% growth on Twitter and +58% growth on Facebook.”

“Claws” sees Nash portraying Desna Simms, an ambitious manicurist and salon owner located in Florida. She gets involved with the “Dixie mafia” and eventually, the Russian mob. She starts out as a money launderer in order to make some more cash, and, of course, ends up in way over her head. Joining Desna on these misadventures are her crew at the salon: Polly (Carrie Preston), Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes), Virginia (Karrueche Tran), and Jennifer (Jenn Lyon).

The series was created by Eliot Laurence and is showrun by Janine Sherman Barrois. The latter recently inked a multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. The pact sees her continuing to run “Claws” — which is produced by WBTV’s Warner Horizon Scripted Television — and developing new projects for WBTV.

Actress, writer, director, and producer Rashida Jones is among “Claws'” executive producers.

“Claws” airs Sundays on TNT.
