Clea DuVall’s “Happiest Season” Will Debut on Hulu, Kristen Stewart Stars

"Happiest Season": Lacey Terrell

Clea DuVall’s holiday-themed queer rom-com will debut on Hulu. The streamer snagged domestic rights to Kristen Stewart-starrer “Happiest Season.” According to Deadline, Sony Pictures, the film’s original distributor and co-financer, will retain rights in Canada and the rest of the world.

Written by Duvall and Mary Holland, “Happiest Season” sees Stewart playing Abby, a woman who is planning to propose at her girlfriend’s annual Christmas dinner. “When Abby learns that Harper (Mackenzie Davis) has kept their relationship a secret from her family, she begins to question the girlfriend she thought she knew,” the pic’s synopsis teases.

DuVall and Holland co-starred in “Veep” together.

“Happiest Season” will premiere on Hulu November 25.

“This holiday season — more than any other — we could all use a little happiness. It was essential to Sony Pictures and to the filmmakers that Clea’s marvelous and fresh holiday-themed romantic comedy come out when the lights are on the trees,” said Nicole Brown, president of TriStar Pictures. “We are excited that Hulu is geared up to make this happen in the U.S. and grateful that they love the movie as much as we do.”

DuVall added, “I am beyond grateful to Hulu for providing an incredible home for ‘Happiest Season,’ and I’ll forever cherish my journey with Sony Pictures who felt just as strongly as I did about the value of bringing the first major LGBTQ+ holiday rom-com to audiences. I’m hopeful that this universal story, told through a unique lens, will join the long list of holiday classics that continue to bring all of us so much joy and happiness.”

“Better Call Saul,” “Heroes,” and “But I’m a Cheerleader” are among DuVall’s acting credits. She made her feature directorial debut with 2016’s “The Intervention.” The dramedy about couples staging an intervention for their unhappily married friends premiered at Sundance Film Festival.

Stewart’s recent credits include “Underwater,” “Charlie’s Angels,” and “Seberg.”

Davis is known for “Halt and Catch Fire,” “Terminator: Dark Fate,” and “Blade Runner 2049.”
