Comedy About Nicki Minaj’s Trinidadian-American Childhood in Queens to Air on ABC Family

Hip hop’s reigning queen is getting her own TV show — kind of.

Nicki Minaj’s childhood in ’90s Queens as the daughter of Trinidadian-immigrant parents will be the inspiration for a new ABC Family show that’s been ordered to series. Minaj will appear on and executive produce the comedy, which will begin shooting in Queens this December. The show will focus on how a talented little girl became a global superstar.

Kate Angelo will write the pilot.

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” comemnted Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said ABC Family exec Karey Burke. We’re beyond thrilled to bring her one-of-a-kind story to our channel. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Minaj’s many hits include “Super Bass,” “Starships” and “Anaconda.” She has been named the most influential female rapper of all time by multiple publications, including the NY Times.
