Constance Wu to Topline and Exec Produce “Goodbye, Vitamin” Adaptation for Universal

Wu in "Crazy Rich Asians"

“Crazy Rich Asians” breakout Constance Wu is set to topline another high profile adaptation of a novel. She’ll star in and exec produce “Goodbye, Vitamin” for Universal Pictures, Variety reports.

Based on Rachel Khong’s acclaimed debut novel of the same name, the pic centers on Ruth (Wu), “who discovers that her father, a renowned history professor, has lost his job after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She decides to return home and work with her father’s former student to stage a fake class so he can continue to teach,” the source summarizes.

Jennifer Yee McDevitt (“10 Mountains 10 Years”) will pen the script.

“Crazy Rich Asians” took in a whopping $238 million worldwide on a budget of $30 million. Wu received a Golden Globe nod for her leading role in the rom-com, which marked the first major Hollywood film led by an Asian cast since 1993’s “The Joy Luck Club.”

Wu has emphasized that “Crazy Rich Asians” “wasn’t just a movie or a job or a tool” — “it was a movement.” She explained that the movement is “trying to open up a wider, more inclusive, more intersectional breadth of storytelling.”

Wu stars as Jessica Huang on “Fresh Off the Boat.” ABC recently renewed the family sitcom for a sixth season. She stars alongside Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, and Julia Stiles in Lorene Scafaria’s “Hustlers,” set to bow September 13. The pic is inspired by a true story and centers on former strip club employees who hatch a plan to steal tens of thousands of dollars from their Wall Street clients.
