Corinna McFarlane’s ‘The Silent Storm’ Sold to Sony

Corinna McFarlane’s directorial debut “The Silent Storm” has been acquired by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.

Starring Andrea Riseborough (“Birdman,” “Oblivion”) and Damian Lewis (“Homeland”), “The Silent Storm” is centered on “an enigmatic outsider (Riseborough) living on a remote Scottish island who finds herself caught between her minister husband and the delinquent who is sent to live with them,” according to Deadline.

In an interview with Women and Hollywood, McFarlane, who also penned the script, revealed that the story was inspired by her family and ancestry: “My father was orphaned in Glasgow as a boy. A few years ago, he became unwell. Faced with this situation, I immediately felt this overwhelming call to discover Scotland and the echoes of my ancestors in the landscape. I was reading a lot of Jung and exploring archetypes and mythology at the time. ‘The Silent Storm’ is a result of this process. My father has since thankfully recovered.”

The film was executive produced by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson (both famously known for producing the “James Bond” films) and Eon Productions, while Nicky Bentham produced through Neon Films. Broccoli, Wilson, McFarlane, and Bentham are already set to reunite on a psychological thriller currently in development. McFarlane and Bentham have also teamed up to develop a comedy set in London called “Monk’s Apartment.”
