“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s” Aline Brosh McKenna and Sono Patel Have a New Show in the Works

“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” co-creator and showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna has yet another TV project in the works. Deadline revealed that Pop TV has ordered a pilot from Brosh McKenna and “Crazy Ex” writer-producer Sono Patel. Created and written by the duo, “Arranged” is about best friends who get married for practical — as compared to romantic — reasons.

Both Brosh McKenna and Patel are exec producing and the former will direct, marking her pilot directorial debut.

Brosh McKenna is working on “Arranged” per her overall deal with CBS Television Studios. Also on her slate is an untitled comedy series set in the world of law enforcement, which she’s developing with “Crazy Ex” writer-producers Rachel Specter and Audrey Wauchope.

“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” a musical comedy about a lawyer who impulsively moves to California from New York in pursuit of an ex, was recently renewed for a fourth and final season. It’s expected to bow in fall 2018. Brosh McKenna created the CW series with star Rachel Bloom.

Brosh McKenna has previously written and directed for “Crazy Ex.” Her big screen credits as a writer include “The Devil Wears Prada,” “We Bought a Zoo,” and the 2014 remake of “Annie.” She co-wrote “Cruella” the upcoming live-action film about the “101 Dalmatians” villainess starring Emma Stone. She’s also the creator of #FemaleFilmmakerFriday, a social movement celebrating female directors’ achievements and increasing their visibility.

Patel wrote for the short-lived NBC show “A to Z,” and created and produced the animated web series “Ginger Snaps.”
