Cynthia Mort to Write and Direct “Jane Millen,” Starring Olga Kurylenko

“Nina” helmer Cynthia Mort has booked her next gig. She’ll write and direct “Jane Millen,” a crime thriller starring Olga Kurylenko (“Oblivion,” “Quantum of Solace”), The Hollywood Reporter writes.

According to THR, Kurylenko’s character is “a seasoned cop battling her own demons.” Making matters more complicated, “she is put on a suspicious murder case of an affluent couple who got mixed up with the wrong man, and as her investigation takes her down a rabbit hole, affairs, jealousies, and dark secrets emerge that threaten to involve her own private life.”

“Olga’s experience in portraying strong, complicated characters, as well as the depth of her talent, not only inspires tremendous confidence, but also great excitement about what she will bring to this role,” Mort said in a statement.

Kurylenko’s recent credits include “La Corrispondenza,” “ A Perfect Day,” and “The Water Diviner.”

Mort previously penned “The Brave One,” a psychological thriller about a woman who takes the law into her own hands. Jodie Foster played the titular brave one, a radio host who, in the aftermath of a violent attack, buys a gun and becomes a vigilante. Foster received a Golden Globe nod for the role. Mort made her directorial debut with this year’s “Nina,” a controversial Nina Simone biopic starring Zoe Saldana (“Guardians of the Galaxy”). Her other writing credits include “Roseanne,” “Will & Grace,” and “Tell Me You Love Me.”

Worldwide sales for “Jane Millen” will be handled by 13 Films, and according to THR, they’ll “introduce the project to buyers at the American Film Market,” running from November 2-9 in Santa Monica. Tannaz Anisi, president of 13 Films, is producing along with Karen Kehela Sherwood (“A Beautiful Mind,” “Blue Crush”) and Greg Schenz (“Freeheld”). Production for the film will kick off in April.
