Daisy Ridley’s getting in touch with her morbid side. The “Star Wars” actress toplines and produces “Sometimes I Think About Dying,” an indie drama that recently wrapped production.
Directed by Rachel Lambert, the pic tells the story of Fran (Ridley), a woman “who likes to think about dying. It brings sensation to her quiet life. When she makes the new guy at work laugh, it leads to more: a date, a slice of pie, a conversation, a spark. The only thing standing in their way is Fran herself,” Deadline teases.
The film is based on “Killers,” a play by Kevin Armento, and “Sometimes I Think About Dying,” a 2019 short helmed by Stefanie Abel Horowitz. Lambert penned the script with Armento, Horowitz, and Katy Wright-Mead.
Lambert made her narrative feature debut with 2016’s “In the Radiant City,” and also directed the 2016 doc “Mom Jovi.” The former screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Ahead of its premiere, we asked Lambert what advice she’d give other women directors. “Every woman in film you can know, know. And every woman in film you can help, help. Even if that involves just being an ear. Or giving notes on a draft. Or sending a good suggestion for a collaborator. Or pouring the margaritas, which is crucial! I am catapulted, routinely, by the women I work with in this industry,” she emphasized. “It’s rather astonishing.”
Ridley’s upcoming slate includes Jane Anderson’s WWII drama “Women in the Castle.”
