“Wonder Woman” will — at long last — hit multiplexes June 2. But the fun won’t stop there. DC Entertainment has announced that June 3 will be “Wonder Woman Day,” complete with celebrations at more than 2,000 comic book stories, bookstores, and libraries. “DC will partner with outlets including Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Walmart, Costco, and Amazon for exclusive in-store and digital promotions, while Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Warner Bros. Consumer Products will also push the event,” writes The Hollywood Reporter. Shea Fontana, Cat Staggs, and other comic book creators who’ve played a part in Diana Prince’s arc will be attending special “Wonder Woman Day” events to discuss the character and her legacy.
In honor of the big day, DC will release two special issues which will be given away free by partners — “a reprint of the first issue of the current ‘Wonder Woman’ series by Rucka and Liam Sharp, and ‘DC Super Hero Girls Wonder Woman Day Special Edition,’ featuring an excerpt of the upcoming third book in [Shea] Fontana and Yancey Labat’s series of young reader graphic novels,” THR writes.
And if you prefer to celebrate the iconic character at home, there’s something for you, too. You’ll be able to download a “Wonder Woman Day” activity kit which includes coloring pages and games. Plus, DC’s online DC All Access series will feature weeklong “Wonder Woman” programming beginning May 29.
2017 is a historic year for “Wonder Woman.” In addition to Patty Jenkins’ long-awaited film centered on the woman behind the Golden Lasso, it’s also “the 75th anniversary of the first solo ‘Wonder Woman’ comic book,” THR reports. Check out the final “Wonder Woman” spot to see Gal Gadot bring the Amazonian warrior and princess to life.
