If you loved “Drop Dead Gorgeous” you’ll want to listen up. The 1999 Kirsten Dunst-led cult comedy isn’t getting rebooted, but Netflix does have another beauty pageant-centric project in the works. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the streaming giant has ordered Debby Ryan-starrer “Insatiable” to series. Lauren Gussis (“Dexter”) penned the script.
The dramedy follows a “disgraced, dissatisfied civil lawyer turned beauty-pageant coach (Dallas Roberts) who takes on a vengeful, bullied teenager (Disney Channel alum Ryan) as his client,” THR writes. The supporting cast includes Alyssa Milano (“Charmed”), Kimmy Shields (“Big Little Lies”), Erinn Westbroo (“Awkward.”), and Sarah Colonna (“Parker’s Anchor”).
You may have previously heard word of “Insatiable” in connection to The CW. Just weeks ago the network passed on the show’s pilot, though according to THR it was simply a matter of The CW having “no shelf space” left to air the program. It “remained high on ‘Insatiable,’” but ultimately had to let the show go. Fortunately Netflix also recognized the show’s potential — and handed out a 13-episode order.
Ryan’s credits include “Sing It!” “Jessie,” and “The Suite Life on Deck.” She’ll appear in “Life of the Party,” an upcoming college-set comedy toplined by Melissa McCarthy and “Love’s” Gillian Jacobs.
