Superstar producer Denise Di Novi (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love.,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Heathers” — what a resumé) will make her directorial debut after a two-decade career in Hollywood.
Di Novi will helm Warner Bros.’s “Unforgettable,” a thriller that originally had “Belle” filmmaker Amma Asante attached to direct and Kerry Washington and Kate Hudson to star. The script, by Christina Hodson and David Leslie Johnson, centers on a woman being tormented by her husband’s ex-wife. Washington dropped out of the project to play Anita Hill in the HBO movie “Confirmation” and Asante soon after.
Di Novi had already boarded the project as a producer alongside Alison Greenspan. She and the studio are currently looking for new actresses to cast.
“The fact that this transition is so clear in retrospect makes it no less exciting,” commented Greg Silverman, Warners’ president creative development and worldwide production. “Denise has been a Warners filmmaker for decades, and we know she will have continued success as a director. The cast and crew of ‘Unforgettable’ — and Denise’s home studio, Warner Bros. — are very lucky indeed.”
