Diablo Cody to Adapt Barbie for the Big Screen

Barbie has a new makeover coming her way.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno,” “Jennifer’s Body,” “Young Adult,” “Paradise”) will rewrite the script for the iconic doll’s upcoming live-action outing on the big screen. Sony already has a first draft from “Sex and the City” writer Jenny Bicks.

“Diablo’s unconventionality is just what Barbie needs,” commented producer Walter Parkes about Cody’s hiring. “It signals we’re going for a legitimately contemporary tone. We’re bringing her on because she had great ideas, but even more importantly, she truly loves Barbie.”

Parkes will produce alongside Amy Pascal, Laurie MacDonald, Hannah Minghella, Lauren Abrahams, and Julia Pistor for Mattel’s Playground Productions.
