If you’re looking for Mother’s Day plans, Diane Keaton’s got you covered. The Oscar winner’s latest, “Poms,” hits theaters May 10, Mother’s Day weekend. Deadline confirmed the release date of the STXfilms cheerleading comedy.
Set in a retirement community, “Poms” sees Keaton starting a cheerleading squad with fellow residents. Pam Grier and Jacki Weaver also appear in the pic, which marks Zara Hayes’ narrative feature debut. She’s best known for co-directing 2013’s “The Battle of the Sexes,” an exploration of the events leading up to the famous 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. A similarly-titled narrative version of the story — “Battle of the Sexes,” starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell — was released in 2017.
As the source points out, Keaton’s “Book Club” was released May 18, 2017 — about a year before”Poms'” release date, also capitalizing on Mother’s Day audiences,” which was May 13 that year. Co-starring Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen, “Book Club” tells the story of four life-long friends whose lives are changed after reading “50 Shades of Grey.” The comedy took in over $68 million. Keaton and Bergen described the fact that a film with four 60-plus female leads was made as “a miracle.” Keaton’s “Poms” co-stars, Grier and Weaver, are also over 60.
Keaton is a four-time Oscar nominee who won in 1977 for “Annie Hall.”
