Documentarians Tia Lessin and Carl Deal made a big wave with their film, Trouble the Waters about Hurricane Katrina.  They got funding through PBS to make their new film that examined the role of big money, specifically really rich people and corporations, were influencing our political system.

Their film Citizen Koch premiered at Sundance and they were looking forward to being on PBS stations this fall.

But that was not to be.  The folks at PBS cut their funding and they lost their air date most likely due to the fact that Mr. Koch was a donor.

So much for independent media.

So they took to kickstarter just this week to raise $75,000, and as of this morning, they have raised over $89,000.

This is important because it is about freedom of the press.  But it’s also important because it shows that many people don’t want big money to trump their vote.
