Disney currently has 13 films scheduled for a 2016 release, and at least five of them will feature a female protagonist: "Zootopia," "Alice Through the Looking Glass," "Finding Dory," "Queen of Katwe" and "Moana." A sixth film, the "Star Wars" prequel "Rogue One," has been speculated to star Felicity Jones, but we still don’t really know anything about the project.
Only one of those 13 films, "Queen of Katwe," has a female filmmaker attached in Mira Nair.
Two of the female-centric films will center on a girl or woman of color ("Queen of Katwe" and "Moana"), while another two feature animal protagonists.
Here are press descriptions of Disney’s female-centric films in 2016.
