Disney exec Christine McCarthy is breaking quite a few barriers on her way to the top. Last week she was promoted and became the company’s first-ever female CFO. In her new position, McCarthy clocks in as the highest-ranking woman in the company’s history.
McCarthy has worked for Disney for ten years, and this rise to the top marks not only her personal achievement, but also a glass ceiling breaking. Her previous role was as Executive Vice President, Corporate Real Estate, Alliances and Treasurer of the company. As CFO, McCarthy will hold financial sway over one of the most profitable entertainment companies in the world.
“[Christine] is highly respected in the finance sector, and in this new role she will have even more impact on creating value for Disney shareholders,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO. Iger also praised McCarthy’s “strong leadership and keen financial acumen.”
In a statement, McCarthy, who is a mentor for the National Math and Science Initiative’s STEM program, shared that she is “humbled and honored to be entrusted with the role of CFO of this incredibly dynamic company.”
