“This Changes Everything,” a documentary investigating Hollywood’s decades of discrimination against women on and off-screen, has nabbed distribution. According to a press release, Good Deed Entertainment has obtained North American rights to the doc with plans for a rollout in theaters and on demand early this summer. No specific release date has been announced yet.
Featuring interviews with Meryl Steep, Shonda Rhimes, Sandra Oh, Reese Witherspoon, Taraji P. Henson, Natalie Portman, Amandla Stenberg, and more, “This Changes Everything” “takes an incisive look at the history, empirical evidence, and systemic industry forces that perpetuate gender disparity in today’s culture.”
Tom Donahue (“Casting By”) directed and the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media and Regina K. Scully’s Artemis Rising Foundation are among the doc’s producers. The film made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last September.
“For years women in our industry have hoped that with every successful female-driven film, we would move closer toward gender equality,” said Davis, one of “This Changes Everything’s” exec producers. “This film highlights the lack of progress and is a call to action toward change once and for all.”
“2019 is a year of urgency in the fight for gender equality,” Donahue agreed. “We are excited that Good Deed shares our vision for lasting systemic change on this issue and believe they are ideal partners to amplify this film as an advocacy tool.”
