A new documentary about the plus-size modeling industry will explore the issue of sizeism in fashion and the larger world.
Currently in production, “A Perfect 14” is directed by Giovanna Morales Vargas and will be distributed by BOND/360 in 2016.
Here’s the press release’s description of the doc:
A PERFECT 14 follows the journeys of three of the most notable plus-size models, Elly Mayday, Kerosene Deluxe and Laura Wells, as they struggle against the distorted perception of body image that is being widely perpetuated in culture. These women share their personal experiences of challenges and successes to help empower themselves and others to eradicate the currently held standards of beauty. In addition to being successful models, they are driven to make a positive impact in the world.
A PERFECT 14 combines the stories of the main subjects with an exploration of the largely ignored topic of weightism. Interviewing experts in the field of fat studies and body image, plus-size and standard models, designers, photographers, and magazine editors, the film also exposes the collective unconsciousness of size-based segregation. It also asks the question of the media’s responsibility in its single focus portrayal of thin role models and how it takes a heavy toll on the self-confidence and body image of women.
